Gael Monfils: I’m returning to my old form
French tennis player Gael Monfils arrived to the capital of Serbia, where he will be playing at Belgrade Open.
Upon arriving to Belgrade and Novak Tennis Centre, after his training, he dedicated his time to the ball catchers. He patiently and enthusiastically traded strokes with them, to their great joy.
Previously, he played in Lyon, where he lost from Nishioka in the second round.
“Immediately the next day, I trained with Roger Federer in Switzerland, he asked me if I was free. I started feeling a lot better. For a long time I’ve been trying to return to a good form, and I think I’m slowly but surely progressing toward that now. I feel a lot better, I trained hard in the gym. I need matches for confidence, but I think it’s been getting better day after day. The last time I was here in Belgrade, I was at the finals of Davis Cup,” said the 15th best tennis player in the world.
After Belgrade, he will be playing at Roland-Garros.
“I am glad to return to Paris. Last year I had the worst performance there since I had gone pro. I want to shine again. Paris was always a magical place for me, different from the others. Every time I step into the court is a special moment for me,” he concluded.
Monfils will be free in the first round, and in the second, he will be playing against the winner of the Arthur Rinderknech (FRA) – Roberto Carballes Baena (ESP) match.
